In a sudden turn of events, Jonas Omlin has decided to stay in the Bundesliga as Borussia Mönchengladbach’s experienced goalkeeper is set for his Bayer Leverkusen medical on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Earlier in the weekend, it was reported that Sunderland were considering a move for the 32-year-old shot-stopper. However, Leverkusen acted quickly to bring the Swiss international in as Mark Flekken’s replacement.

The Dutch custodian will be out for months after a knee ligament injury. Janis Blaswich, who joined Der Werkself in the summer like Flekken, played between the sticks since the injury of the starting goalkeeper at the hour mark in the defeat to Hoffenheim.

Omlin made a quick impression at Gladbach after his move from Montpellier three years ago. He was elected as a captain at the start of his first full season, but successive injuries limited his time on the pitch. The 32-year-old has only featured 34 times in the Bundesliga, with none of them coming in this term.
