Liam Rosenior sends warning to Robert Sanchez after DROPPING struggling goalkeeper for crunch clash with Aston Villa

Liam Rosenior has warned Robert Sanchez he does not have a No 1 goalkeeper after dropping the struggling Blues star for the crunch Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The Spaniard is not thought to be injured as he has been named on the bench by Rosenior.

Filip Jorgensen has been chosen in place of Sanchez for the game at Villa Park, a vital match in the race for Champions League qualification.

Rosenior’s side are sixth, three points behind Liverpool in fifth and six adrift of Villa in fourth, but will leapfrog Arne Slot‘s men with a win on Wednesday night.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Rosenior said: ‘The way I work with goalkeepers – I don’t have an outright number one.

‘I want competition in every area, and Filip has been waiting very patiently for his chance and I’ve given it to him this evening. Filip has been very good in training.’

Robert Sanchez has been dropped by Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior for the trip to Aston Villa

Sanchez has faced criticism for his performances this season and was blamed for Arsenal‘s second goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates on Sunday.

Gary Neville described the Spaniard’s goalkeeping as ‘really poor’ after Jurrien Timber headed home from Declan Rice‘s corner.

‘Chelsea are asking for VAR but Sanchez is all over the place in my view,’ Neville said.

‘There’s not a chance of a foul. It’s really poor goalkeeping. Sanchez has had a really poor day. He got the flight of the ball wrong.’

Chelsea fans also blasted Sanchez for his role in Arsenal’s second goal in their 3-2 victory in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final in January.

One of Jorgensen’s first jobs against Villa was to pick the ball out of the net after Douglas Luiz – a target for Chelsea in the January transfer window – gave the hosts the lead inside two minutes.
