LIlle's Three Second-Half Goals Fuel Win Over OM

The two sides played a scoreless first half with Lille attempting eight shots and OM countering with three. The goals came in the second half when Les Dogues received a penalty kick chance, which Jonathan David converted in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Less than 20 minutes later, Paulo Fonseca and his team added the insurance goal thanks to a goal from Rémy Cabella. Even with a 2-0 lead, Lille faced adversity as veteran defender Ismaily had an own goal to make the game 2-1.

Marseille received a lifeline, but they didn’t take advantage to level the scoring as Gabriel Gudmundsson restored the two-goal lead with a goal in the 84th minute. The three goals capped off six shots in the second half and their aggressive approach carried over to the final 45 minutes.

Lille leave with all three points, which will help them in the race to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season. AS Monaco will have a chance to leapfrog LOSC on Sunday with a win over Stade Rennais.

Les Phocéens losing streak now reaches four games across all competitions after this result. Jean-Louis Gasset and his team will need to turn the page on this result and focus on SL Benfica in their UEFA Europa League quarterfinal tie.
