Lina Magull has announced her retirement from the German women’s national team with immediate effect.

The news comes as a shock considering the European Championships are just three and a half months away.

Magull, who currently plays for Inter Milan, made 77 appearances for Germany and scored 22 goals in the process.

“She has been an important part of the women’s national team for years,” said head coach Christian Wuck.

“Her experience and tactically adept and creative style of play has contributed to the success of recent years,” Wuck added.

The 30-year-old made her debut for the DFB-Frauen back in October 2015 and will be given her farewell during Germany’s match with Scotland in April.
