Mail Sport’s Ian Ladyman has identified one reason why Pep Guardiola would potentially leave Manchester City of his own accord, rather then see the club sack him from his post.

Manchester City are on a perhaps unprecedented 11-game run where they have won just once in all competitions, which naturally brings an increase in the pressure on Guardiola’s position.

As such, talk on the latest episode of It’s All Kicking Off with Ladyman and Chris Sutton turned to whether City could theoretically end the season without the talismanic boss.

‘Pep’s relationship with Manchester City is so symbiotic, is so close that I don’t think either party would allow that to happen, it would be the ultimate indignity for Pep Guardiola, and he wouldn’t deserve that.

He could lose every game until the end of the season, but he wouldn’t let that happen. Guardiola’s the type of guy who would walk, just like he did at the end of the 2012 season at Barcelona when he went and had a year off in New York to get his head back together.

‘He only had four years at Barcelona before the mental toll of that became too much – this is his ninth year at City. If this continues I don’t think his pride will allow him to oversee this indefinitely.’
