Barcelona have rejoined the race to sign Mohamed Salah after pursuing him in 2022, according to Spanish media.

The ‘Egyptian King’ is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer and uncertainty surrounding his future remains. In a cryptic social media post, Salah recently hinted that this could be his final season at Anfield.

Still going strong at 32 years of age, the winger remains eminently important to the Reds and is, once again, the club’s top scorer. However, it is not yet clear whether Liverpool are actually keen on extending his stay or whether they are ready to move on.

In 2023, the Reds received eye-watering offers from Saudi Arabia for Salah but held firm and refused to entertain selling their talismanic attacker. Saudi interest remains, so a move to the Middle East is a concrete possibility in 2025.

However, there are also other options seemingly on the table.

Barcelona want Salah

At least that is according to Sport, which claims that Barcelona are now seriously considering whether a move for Salah is feasible. The Catalans are still forced to pinch pennies, so the free transfer signing of one of Europe’s best forwards appeals to the club brass.

The Spanish outlet makes sure to mention that Athletic Club winger Nico Williams remains the club’s priority option for the wings, but there is a long-standing interest in Salah.

Back in 2022, president Joan Laporta sought to sign the Egypt international to make a splash in the transfer window. However, the financial demands of the player and of Liverpool ultimately proved too steep and the Blaugrana signed Robert Lewandowski instead.

The report claims that Liverpool want to keep Salah but that the 32-year-old is open to moving elsewhere and that contact with the player’s camp has remained active since that initial attempt at signing him.
