Andy Robertson could depart Liverpool to join Tottenham either in the coming days or as a free agent in the summer
Andy Robertson’s potential departure to Tottenham may spark a return to Liverpool for Kostas Tsimikas as cover.
The Scottish left-back has started just four times in the Premier League this season and could be open to a move to ensure his place at the World Cup 2026. It’s understood that Spurs have made an approach for the 31-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, but no further movement has taken place.
If the fullback does make a move from Anfield this month, then Arne Slot may recall Tsimikas to cover the position until he is able to make more signings in the summer. The Greek defender is currently on loan at Roma, but reports suggest the Italian side is ready to terminate his temporary deal.
Tsimikas has failed to impress at Roma, making 16 appearances and assisting just once back in September 2025. Italian media outlets have suggested that Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest are interested in signing the defender.

However, Slot may feel that cover is required at left-back if Robertson leaves, with just Milos Kerkez the only fit player to compete in this position.
Owen Beck is a left-sided fullback but is currently out with a hamstring injury, and while Joe Gomez can fill in at that position, his main coverage is centre-half, with only Ibrahima Konate keeping him out of the squad at present.

Tsimikas and Robertson have worked well together in the past, sharing the position, and it could be a temporary fix for the side as they aim to kickstart a good run of form heading into the second half of the season.
Robertson’s potential end to his Liverpool career will be bittersweet after spending almost a decade at Anfield. The Scotland international was signed from Hull City for £8million and went on to become one of their most impressive fullbacks in modern times.
Robertson has nine major honours with the Reds, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
