Liverpool reportedly see former Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a cheaper alternative to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké.
Hugo Ekitiké has been linked with several top English clubs this summer, including Liverpool.
However, no deal has been reached so far, with Eintracht Frankfurt demanding a hefty €100 million for the French forward.
According to Foot Mercato, Ekitiké’s steep price tag has prompted Liverpool to explore alternatives, with Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta emerging as a potential target.
The report claims Liverpool have contacted the representatives of the 28-year-old ex-Mainz striker, who is expected to cost between €50 and €60 million.
Crystal Palace initially signed Mateta on loan before making the move permanent in January 2022. Including the loan fee, the London club reportedly paid €14.5 million to acquire the striker from Mainz.
