Quansah departs for Germany

Liverpool have sold centre-back Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £35 million with add-ons. The 22-year-old has decided to depart Anfield having won the Premier League title, and being informed by the club’s manager Arne Slot that he would find more regular first-team football elsewhere.

Having appeared in 30 Premier League games, scoring two goals, the defender that came through the club’s youth team making his full debut in 2021, has decided to try his luck elsewhere. The England under-21 international has signed a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club and will link up with former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag at Leverkusen.

It is a major sale for Liverpool, and the transfer fee is somewhat surprising considering Quansah’s lack of first-team action.

Next season Quansah is expected to play an important role for the German side, and will be given the opportunity to shine in a different country with the player’s ultimate goal being representation in England’s full national side. England manager Thomas Tuchel will definitely have an eye on Quansah’s progress in Germany.
