Dominik Szoboszlai has been labelled as Steven Gerrard’s heir at Anfield by Liveprool fans following his Carabao Cup cracker.
The Hungarian midfielder was on target against Leicester on Wednesday night in Merseyside as the Reds came from behind to win 3-1.
It is the 22-year-old’s second goal for Liverpool following his £60million move from RB Leipzig in July.
And he may not score a better goal this season, having rifled an attempt from outside the box in off the underside off the crossbar.
The goal put the hosts 2-1 against the Championship outfit, with Diogo Jota sealing the win late on as Liverpool booked their place in the fourth round.
Fans waxed lyrical over the youngster on social media, as they insisted they have finally found their replacement for club legend Gerrard, who departed in 2015.
Taking to X, one supporter posted: “Ladies and Gentlemen, we found him. We found the Gerrard Regen.”
Another said: “Ladies and gentleman. It is my honour to present to you Steven Gerrard’s heir: Dominik Szoboszlai.”
A third added: “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Szoboszlai is Gerrard’s regen.”
This user then remarked: “Szoboszlai is a Steven Gerrard clone. That goal is like a goal straight from [the] Gerrard collection. Signing of the summer by any club.”
One then gushed: “Szoboszlai is a Steven Gerrard reincarnation. He is going to lead us into an era of great football and multiple trophies.”
Meanwhile another simply stated: “What a baller, Gerrard successor.”
Speaking on talkSPORT 2 commentary of the goal, former England defender Micky Gray said: “That’s just absolutely unbelievable.
“What a strike! You can’t get anything more behind that, it’s got pace on it, drive, it never moves, he just rifles that one into the top corner.
“Two or three goalkeepers could have been in that goal and got nowhere near it, it is a rocket.
“What a finish from an absolute top-class player.”
Sam Matterface added: “He’s slotted in seamlessly, he’s probably the jewel in the engine room, Dominik Szoboszlai.”
