Liverpool fans are getting excited about the prospect of Arne Slot’s potential arrival at Anfield after an old clip of his post-match team-talk resurfaced on social media.

Slot has emerged as serious candidate to become Jurgen Klopp’s successor as Liverpool intensify their search for a new manager.

The 45-year-old is one of the most progressive coaches in European football and on Sunday guided his side Feyenoord to victory in the KNVB Cup.

The victory marks the second trophy he has won in charge of the Rotterdam giants, having made them domestic champions 12 months ago.

However, it’s not Slot’s recent silverware that has got the Liverpool fans talking, it’s an old post-match speech that has gone viral.

It's not Slot's recent silverware that has got the Liverpool fans talking, it's an old post-match speech

Klopp announced back in January that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season

The speech started: ‘The reason we are where we are is because you work your ass off every single day and that’s the reason why you could beat this team here in their own stadium without our fans even being here.

‘But, that again is an obligation for the upcoming weeks because you guys are going all to the national teams. Some will play, some don’t but we need to stay fit boys. This only a win. It’s not more than a win. It’s a big win but it’s not more than a win.

‘We have a bigger goal this season and only winning for the first time in 17 years in Amsterdam. Our goal is bigger than that. So take care of your body, make sure come fit as you soon can back to the club so we can go for the last two months and make this season even more special than you already have.

‘We’re not gonna be small. It’s only a win in Amsterdam. That what we did here. I would say before but that’s not completely true. So enjoy the win because it is a big win but take the obligation with you to the national team because we need you back fit. Because then we are going to make this season even more special.’

Just two months after Slot’s impressive speech in the changing room after beating Ajax, his Feyenoord side won the Eredivisie title.

The video of Slot’s speech has resurfaced on social media, with many claiming he is the perfect man to take over from Klopp at Liverpool.

One fan wrote: ‘LETS GOOO, READY TO RUN THROUGH A BRICK WALL FOR HIM NOW.’ Another added: ‘Genuinely tearing up watching this speech. We’ve bagged an elite manager’.

One football fan wrote: ‘Guys I’m excited now I’ve come around to the idea of him as manager’. While another said: ‘Not gonna lie that moved me….’.

One social media user compared his speech to that of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, saying: ‘This is much better than anything I’ve seen from Pep or Arteta (because they are the only two that their fans keep posting the dressing room speeches).’

While others were less than impressed with Slot, saying: ‘Imagine him telling the Liverpool players to stay fit’. Another added: ‘I love his attitude but what about his win rate’.

One fan joked: ‘We need to stay fit… yeah good luck with that Arne’. While one fan wrote: ‘I wouldn’t listen to him let alone Salah and Van Dijk’.

Klopp announced on January 26 that he would be ending his nine season stay at Anfield in May – much to the fans’ dismay.

It was immediately assumed that Xabi Alonso, who has done such outstanding work with Bayer Leverkusen, would be line for an emotional return to Anfield.

But Alonso wanted to stay in Germany, leaving the door open to other potential targets – including Slot, who was considered by Spurs and Chelsea last summer.

It remains to be seen who Liverpool with choose, but Slot has certainly captured the fans’ interest following his spell in Holland.
