Liverpool fans take a dig at Chiesa: ‘Living all our dreams’

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to express their frustration with Federico Chiesa, taking a dig at the Italy international for his limited contributions on the pitch despite his lucrative contract with the Premier League giants.

The 27-year-old moved to Anfield from Juventus for €15m, add-ons included, last summer but has since amassed as few as 371 minutes across 10 appearances, most of which came in cup competitions.

Liverpool fans mock Chiesa over his high salary and lack of playing time

His minimal impact on the field, coupled with seasonal wages of around 7.5m per year, prompted Liverpool fans’ X account Anfield Agenda to voice their disappointment moments before their side’s Champions League exit at the hands of PSG.

“Chiesa is living all our dreams: front-row season ticket and £140k a week,” they wrote, underscoring the sentiment that the player is benefitting financially without delivering commensurate performances.

The Italian winger’s future at Liverpool appears increasingly uncertain, with Calciomercato.com suggesting that a return to Serie A is a plausible option, with clubs like Napoli and Atalanta previously expressing interest during the January transfer window, though no formal offers materialised at that time.

However, Chiesa would likely need to agree to a considerable pay cut if he wants to return to Italy, as his substantial salary remains a significant obstacle to a potential move back to Serie A.

While Liverpool seem destined to secure the Premier League title, Chiesa may miss out on a winner’s medal, as league rules state that players must make at least five appearances to get the recognition. The Italian has featured only three times so far.
