Liverpool fans have been trolled after claiming ‘you don’t get 60,000 fans at a charity game anywhere else’.

Liverpool Legends beat Ajax Legends 4-2 in front of a sold-out Anfield in a charity match on Saturday.

Derk Boerrigter and Kiki Musampa gave the Ajax Legends a comfortable lead at the half-time but Liverpool scored four times thanks to goals from Gregory Vignal, Djibril Cisse, Nabil El Zhar and Fernando Torres.

Elated Reds fans took to social media with pride to claim only their side can attract a massive crowd for a charity match.

But earlier in the day, Real Madrid Legends’ game against Porto Legends drew over 80,000 supporters into the Bernabeu.

And fans took to social media to both stamp out the false claim made by Liverpool supporters and also mock them.

One wrote: ‘75,000 turn up for soccer aid with actors & musicians pretending to be footballers’.

Another made a comparison to the Sidemen charity match which attracted over 60,000 fans at the London Stadium last September.

They said: ‘The sidemen do more than that every single year?’

‘They do it every year in the community shield don’t they?’ a third fan pointed out on X.

The sold-out crowd at Anfield were raising funds for LFC Foundation, which works around the city as well as internationally.

The Liverpool website reports that since 2017, legends matches have raised more than £6.4million in vital funds, with the Foundation supporting almost 123,000 individuals last season alone.

This year’s money will be used to support the Foundation’s education programmes, tackling social issues in Liverpool.
