Mohamed Salah faces an uncertain Liverpool future after being benched three times in a row led to an explosive public rant against Arne Slot
Liverpool are ‘resistant’ to offloading Mohamed Salah during the January transfer window, but fear that the situation could become ‘untenable’. Rumours are swirling that Saturday’s clash with Brighton could mark the forward’s last appearance in a Reds shirt.
This follows his bombshell comments after last weekend’s 3-3 stalemate with Leeds United. Salah remained on the bench throughout that match, marking the third consecutive game he’d been relegated to the substitutes’ bench.
The Egyptian international claimed the club had thrown him under the bus after being dropped. He also revealed his fractured relationship with boss Arne Slot.
“I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season,” he said.

“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
Following his remarks, Salah was excluded from the squad that travelled to Italy for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Inter. However, after a Friday meeting with Slot, he is set to return to action against Brighton.
After that game, Salah will link up with the Egyptian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. Whether this marks his final appearance for the Reds is yet to be seen.
As per The Athletic, Liverpool are hopeful it won’t be his last outing, given that Salah still has 18 months left on his contract. It’s suggested that his time on the sidelines was only temporary.
The club is reportedly ‘bewildered’ by the situation. They believe the ball is in Salah’s court regarding his future, and it’s up to him to communicate if he wishes to depart before the transfer window closes.
If he maintains this stance, the club may deem the situation ‘untenable’. This could force the Reds to sell, especially as Salah has been linked with teams in the Saudi Pro League.
Some speculate that Salah’s comments were designed to either engineer a January move or increase pressure on Slot following a lacklustre season so far. Liverpool currently languish in 10th place in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points.
