Liverpool in Jack Grealish TWIST as ‘contact made’

Liverpool‘s plans of offloading Federico Chiesa could be jeopardised by Manchester City outcast Jack Grealish, who is in contact with Napoli.

The Reds have splashed the cash this summer, spending over €300 million on new recruits after keeping their powder dry in previous windows. Despite the club’s very healthy financial situation, such lavish expenditure needs to be offset with earnings.

Liverpool have to be mindful of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules, and given that they are still planning to add a big-name centre-back, they will have to sell some players now.

Federico Chiesa is the most likely candidate to depart at this point, having just been omitted from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. The Italian is keen to head back to Serie A after a disappointing year at Anfield.

Napoli are long-standing admirers of the former European champion, and they have been deemed one of his most plausible destinations. However, he isn’t the only Premier League player they are keen on.

Napoli want Grealish

The Serie A champions have been looking for a top-class left-winger since January, when they sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG and failed to adequately replace him, much to the annoyance of head coach Antonio Conte.

Noa Lang has been signed from PSV for €25 million and is expected to fill that role on a starting basis. However, Conte is said to want another player in that position, with Lang also capable of playing centrally and on the left.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Conte and sporting director Giovanni Manna are huge fans of Man City outcast Jack Grealish. The Italian outlet reports that contact with the England star has already been made.

However, there is also an acceptance that shouldering his financial package would be nigh on impossible without some help from Man City, suggesting that Napoli are targeting an initial loan move.

This could be bad news for Liverpool and Chiesa, although the Italy international also has suitors elsewhere in his home country. Atalanta, for example, are said to be ready to place a bid for the 27-year-old.
