Liverpool and Antoine Semenyo‘s other suitors will have to pay €74 million (£65m) to sign the Bournemouth star in January, according to David Ornstein.
The Ghana international has been one of the standout performers of the current Premier League season after opting to stay at Bournemouth despite summer interest from Man Utd and Tottenham.
Semenyo agreed to sign a new contract on the South Coast, but Bournemouth had to make a major concession: they had to give him a release clause and accept the fact that he would likely be on the move in 2026.
The value of this release clause has been a well-kept secret – until now – due to the Cherries’ desire to keep hold of Semenyo at least until the end of the season.
However, The Athletic’s transfer insider David Ornstein has now been allowed to disclose the value of Semenyo’s exit fee, and it is cheaper than the price his suitors were quoted in the summer.
Semenyo can be signed for €74m
In the previous window, Bournemouth demanded around €80m just to consider a sale of their star winger after already losing several key players, but the 25-year-old can now be had for just €74m.
When they agreed to this, Bournemouth at least had the foresight to protect themselves from being left short of options. According to Ornstein, the clause must be triggered by a set and as yet undisclosed date so that the Cherries have a few weeks to sort a replacement.
Ornstein also revealed the important detail that this clause will indeed be active in January and not only in the summer, which means that Semenyo could conceivably jump ship already in the winter if he so desires. The winger’s price will drop even further in the summer.
The journalist did mention the recent links to Liverpool, Man City and Spurs, but he did not corroborate whether these teams are indeed keen on signing Semenyo in January, nor did he name any other suitors.
