Liverpool will hold talks with the representatives of Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, according to Anfield Watch.

Despite spending lavishly last summer, the Reds are planning to yet again make major moves. This season has shown that the team is far from the finished product and that more tweaks need to be made.

According to Anfield Watch, the midfield is one area that will receive special attention during the transfer window. It is understood that Liverpool could sign up to two new midfielders.

Ryan Gravenberch has just signed a contract extension, but the futures of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have been the subject of some speculation in recent days. Additionally, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones could conceivably be on the move this summer.

As a result, Liverpool will look to bolster their engine room. Players like Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are appreciated, but Richard Hughes and his recruitment department are also looking at “under-the-radar options.”

Liverpool to hold talks with Yirenkyi

One such option is highly-rated Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi. The 20-year-old has attracted widespread attention and was linked with Man Utd last month.

Yirenkyi, trained by former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, has been likened to his mentor and deemed the “next Essien.” Like many players at Nordsjaelland, the Ghana international is a product of the Right to Dream academy.

Liverpool made an approach for Yirenkyi in January, but the Danish club refused to entertain offers for their star midfielder. The Reds have since intensified their scouting of the youngster.

It is now understood that Liverpool have arranged a meeting with the player’s representatives and family for the upcoming international break. The Anfield club will use the opportunity to present their project to Yirenkyi’s camp, but they are not the only suitors set to hold talks at the end of the month.

While Yirenkyi is highly thought of by Liverpool bosses, he would initially arrive as a squad player with the potential to become a starter further down the line. However, it is thought that the Ghanaian will prioritise playing time when choosing his next club, possibly creating an issue.

It will be interesting to see if the Reds can make a strong enough pitch to alleviate any potential concerns the player may have over his guaranteed minutes – or lack thereof.
