Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch will miss the Netherlands’ two-legged Nations League quarter-final against Spain due to injury.

The 22-year-old has left the Oranje camp ahead of their matches this week after sustaining a muscle injury in the Reds’ League Cup final defeat by Newcastle on Sunday.

The midfielder was on the field for 74 minutes of the clash at Wembley after playing all 120 minutes of Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 penalty shootout defeat by Paris Saint-Germain five days prior.

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has not called up a replacement for the double header against the European champions.

His side will also be without Inter defender Denzel Dumfries, who pulled out with a hamstring injury. Ajax’s Youri Baas and Mats Wieffer of Brighton were called up after his withdrawal amid concerns over the fitness of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Feyenoord’s De Kuip stadium will host the first leg of the clash against La Roja before the return fixture in Valencia on Sunday.

Gravenberch has been ever present in the Liverpool side that require just five wins from their final nine games to clinch the Premier League.

The youngster has been a revelation this term under Arne Slot, having struggled to nail down a regular spot in his debut campaign while managed by Jurgen Klopp.

However, like several of his team-mates who have shown signs of fatigue in recent weeks, his form has wavered and rest could do him some good.

Liverpool do not play again until April 2 when they welcome Everton to Anfield in the Merseyside derby.
