The form of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool continues to be a headache for manager Arne Slot, but the Dutchman has been warned not to make a snap decision when it comes to replacing the Anfield legend.

Salah has been far from his best this season as Liverpool have made a sluggish start to the defence of their Premier League title.

The 33-year-old experienced his longest goal drought since signing for the Reds in 2017, and while he has subsequently netted in back-to-back league outings against Brentford and Aston Villa, his status in the squad is now being questioned.

Slot has twice elected to leave Salah on the bench in the Champions League while FootballTransfers understands that the veteran plans to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Already there is much talk about who will replace the winger, with Football Insider claiming that West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is one option being considered.

It has been claimed that it would take an “irresistible” offer to get the Hammers to part with the 28-year-old, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €47.7m. Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the England winger, who is under contract until 2030.

Bowen to Liverpool makes no sense, claims expert

ESPN has rubbished this report, claiming that the deal would make no financial sense for the former Hull City star.

“While he could offer a short-term boost to Liverpool’s misfiring attack, he does not fit the profile the Reds are likely to be targeting in the market,” ESPN’s Liverpool correspondent Beth Lindop says.

“Bowen turns 29 next month and, considering his importance to West Ham and the fact he is under contract until 2030, it would likely take a significant transfer fee to sign a player who is probably approaching the end of his peak. Financially, it is a deal that just wouldn’t make sense for Liverpool.”
