Liverpool have been told that if they want to complete Arne Slot’s dream midfield signing, they will have to beat the fee they splashed out to sign Florian Wirtz in the summer.

The Reds paid €125 million for the Germany international star but have yet to receive a significant return on that money. In 15 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League, Wirtz has managed only two assists.

While the consensus is that the 22-year-old will still come good at Anfield, his case shows that big spending is no guarantee of success.

Slot, though, could dip back into the transfer market with another huge deal after his side twice beat the British transfer record in the summer – first with Wirtz and then with Alexander Isak, who has similarly struggled.

Reports have linked Liverpool with a stunning move for PSG midfielder Vitinha, who finished third in the recent Ballon d’Or vote.

Prising the Portugal international away from the Parc des Princes side will be no easy task, and according to Fichajes, the Champions League winners have put an enormous price tag on the 25-year-old former Wolves loanee.

PSG will not allow Vitinha to leave for anything less than €130m, the Spanish source states.

The French side are in a position of strength with regards the 25-year-old, who is under contract until 2029 and recently saw his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) rise to €111m – making him the most valuable player at Luis Enrique’s club as the 13th most valuable in the world.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the transfer market again

Liverpool face competition from Real Madrid in the chase for Vitinha in what is shaping up to become the latest transfer battle between the two clubs.

The Reds are also tracking centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi, both of whom are targets for Los Blancos.

Ultimately, it is unlikely that both these clubs will decide to splash out €130m on Vitinha given they will have to juggle other signings and wage budgets.

Liverpool, meanwhile, appear undeterred to make big-money deals, despite both Wirtz and Isak starting slowly.
