Liverpool could target a move for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul Van Hecke if they can’t sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in January.
The Reds reached an agreement to land Guehi from the Eagles this summer, but a move was blocked after the Eagles could not find a replacement.
Guehi will enter the final six months of his contract at the turn of the year, and he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract with an elite club abroad.
Liverpool are poised to return for his services. If they are successful, Van Hecke has been earmarked as an alternative by the hierarchy, as per Givemesport.
Van Hecke has become a mainstay for the Netherlands after his standout displays for the Seagulls in the Premier League in the last few years.
A package of around £45 million could prise him away from Brighton. The South Coast outfit may not block a mid-season exit for the right price.
