Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Benfica midfielder Orkun Kokcu at the turn of the year.

The Merseyside giants had a quiet summer transfer window and they made just one outfield signing in Federico Chiesa.

Manager Arne Slot has his sights on bolstering his midfield in January and reports claim that Kokcu is a top transfer target.

The Turkish ace played his best football under Slot at Feyenoord and the Dutchman seems keen on reuniting with him.

There is a staggering release clause of 150 million euros in Kokcu’s deal at Benfica, but he could be available for 80 million euros.

That is a huge outlay at the start of the year and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will back their manager this winter.

Liverpool have performed above expectations in the early part of the campaign and they are currently top of the league.

They have a five-point lead at the summit and have the chance to boost their title prospects with a marquee signing in January.
