Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is still ‘dead set’ on joining Liverpool, according to a report.

The England international saw a Deadline Day move to Anfield fall through at the 11th hour in the summer as Crystal Palace had a deal for his replacement Igor Julio hijacked by West Ham.

Reports have since claimed that Palace boss Oliver Glasner threatened to quit if his captain was sold without replacement, but the Austrian has insisted that he did not have to resort to such a drastic measure.

He also added that Guehi has remained a consummate professional and will retain his captaincy. Unfortunately for Glasner, the defender’s failure to complete a summer move has only postponed the inevitable.

His contract expires next summer, and there is no chance of him signing an extension. Liverpool boss Arne Slot has already hinted that Guehi could be on the agenda again in 2026.

Liverpool with free run at Guehi?

The problem Liverpool will face is that only non-English clubs will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with Guehi in January, which would allow his other suitors to steal a march on the Reds. The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid have already been credited with potential interest.

However, it seems that the 25-year-old still has his heart set on joining the reigning Premier League champions. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Guehi is ‘dead set’ on a move to Liverpool.

Writing about Chelsea‘s interest in their former academy prospect, Phillips claims that the Blues have pretty much ended their pursuit of Guehi despite the fact that he is ‘universally liked’ at Stamford Bridge.

He adds that Guehi was ‘never that keen to return to Chelsea anyway,’ leaving Liverpool with a free run at the defender as long as he does not agree a move abroad in January.
