Lorenz responds to Preußen Münster dismissal over donations controversy

The 37-year-old has responded to the 2.Bundesliga club’s dismissal

After ‘concrete evidence of irregularities related to donations’ led to Marc Lorenz’s dismissal by SC Preußen Münster, the player has since responded to the allegations.

The veteran midfielder, who has been at the club since 2022, took to social media platform Instagram to cite mental health issues as the reason behind the financial irregularities.

“What I have to reproach myself for is that I settled the donations too late. However, by the time of termination, the outstanding amount had already been paid.

“Accordingly, I was very surprised that the club was making this public without prior agreement. I found out about it myself from the Preußen website.

“But the overall context also includes: I have been in therapeutic treatment for several weeks because my mental health has suffered greatly in recent years.

“This was partly due to the sporting situation, but also to difficult private circumstances in my immediate family. The club had been informed of this for over a year.

“I can only explain the fact that the funds were transferred late as being due to illness. My mental illness burdened me to the point I was completely listless during this time and unable to initiate necessary actions in a timely manner.

“But I would never intentionally embezzle donations for a good cause. As mentioned, all funds had already been paid before the termination and the press release from Preußen,” he added.
