Luis Enrique has described Liverpool‘s 1-0 win over his Paris Saint-Germain side as ‘unfair’ after the Reds’ smash and grab job at the Parc des Princes.
The Reds were under the pump for almost the entire first leg of their Last 16 clash with PSG, seeing only 29.5 per cent of the ball and conceded an astonishing 27 shots in the game.
Yet Harvey Elliott’s goal in the 87th minute, just 47 seconds after coming onto the pitch, was the decisive strike in the game, his Liverpool side ending up 1-0 winners in the French capital.
However the win has largely been attributed to the work of Alisson Becker, who made nine saves in the game and earned widespread acclaim for his heroics.
Among those who underlined just how impressive the Reds stopper was, was Enrique himself, who admitted the No 1 was ‘exceptional’, but the result was unfair on his side.
‘I think we deserved a different result – but football is like this,’ he said after the final whistle. ‘It is often a game of injustice.
Luis Enrique was left fuming at his side’s defeat by Liverpool despite being the better side

Paris Saint-Germain saw 70.5 per cent of the ball and had 27 shots in the game, 10 on target

Yet Alisson held firm throughout and Harvey Elliott was able to steal a winner on 87 minutes
‘The goalkeeper was exceptional. Alisson decided which way the game went. Liverpool have never played like this this season. And it’s not because they chose to. It’s because we made them.
‘But the details are Alisson made five amazing saves.
‘We were very superior.’
The result brought an end to the longest unbeaten streak in Europe’s top five leagues, with PSG going on a staggering run of form following a Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich in November.
Les Parisiens in fact had not lost for an impressive 22 games as they look set to once again sail away with the Ligue 1 title, but Arne Slot’s side finally brought their progress to a temporary halt.
‘Their best player was the goalkeeper,’ Enrique added to French broadcaster Canal+.
‘We were far better than Liverpool. Far better! But they won that game. That’s very unfair.
‘I don’t see any negative aspects. I’m very proud of my team, very proud of my players. There is a second leg to be played at Liverpool. We won’t give up.’
