The Croatia international has agreed a deal to join Swansea as one of the club’s owners, according to a shock report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, although the value of his stake has not been revealed.

It has been confirmed that Modric has invested in the club as part of his “personal project for the future” as he prepares for life after retirement.

Swansea are currently 12th in the Championship table and they haven’t featured in the Premier League since being relegated back in 2018.

They have reached the play-offs on two occasions since their relegation back to the second-tier, although they finished in a lowly 14th place last season.

Modric will join Swansea’s current ownership group of Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Jason Cohen when his move to the club is officially confirmed.

He has become the second Real Madrid star to move into the football ownership business in their last year, with Los Blancos team-mate Kylian Mbappe purchasing an 80% stake in Ligue 2 side Caen in July.

Will Luka Modric sign for Swansea?

Modric will not join Swansea as a player this summer. Although the Croatia legend has invested in the Welsh club, he has no intention of signing a playing contract with Alan Sheehan’s side.

He remains fully committed to continuing his career at Real Madrid and he is widely expected to sign a new contract with the Spanish giants.

Modric is due to become a free agent when his current deal expires at the end of June, but he would like to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and he has no desire to retire as things stand.

The 39-year-old has made 583 appearances for Real Madrid since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and he has won a total of 28 trophies during an illustrious career in the Spanish capital.

Modric has featured on 48 occasions so far this season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €6.1 million.
