Linton Maina’s goal against VfL Wolfsburg helped Köln to successive home wins for the very first time this season. Lukas Kwasniok talked about the importance of the three points in his honest assessment of the game.
“There were two very different halves,” said Kwasniok. “From Wolfsburg’s point of view, it would certainly have been worth a draw, but for us it was of course an extremely important home win.
“ I’m very pleased that we were able to reward ourselves with three points today. Ultimately, I’d rather win once than draw twice.”
Kwasniok entered into such comparisons as they were narrowly defeated in Freiburg in the previous week. The 44-year-old also conceded that the game against Wolfsburg wasn’t a good watch for neutrals.
“We are a newly promoted team. Of course, you want to see good football in every game. And if I was watching it on TV, I might have turned it off today. But, as the coach of this team, the fighting spirit makes me extremely proud. They threw themselves to defend every tackle.”
