Darts sensation and Manchester United super-fan Luke Littler has delivered his verdict on Ruben Amorim‘s arrival at Old Trafford.

Amorim arrived in Manchester on Monday to replace Erik ten Hag as he looks to turn United’s fortunes around after their disappointing start to the season.

The Portuguese boss has previously been linked with Liverpool and West Ham, but chose to leave Sporting Lisbon mid-season to take over at United.

Littler, 17, who is currently competing at the Grand Slam of Darts, was asked for his opinion on Amorim on Tuesday night ahead of his final group match, and admitted he is unsure whether the 39-year-old will prove to be a success.

‘I’ve been focusing on both… mostly this!’ he told Sky Sports when asked if Amorim starting at United had taken priority over his quest for another darts title.

‘I don’t know whether he’s [Amorim] going to do a job, but obviously we’ve got him in for some reason. He didn’t want to go to Liverpool or West Ham, he chose us.’

Amorim flew into Manchester with five of his assistants on Monday afternoon before meeting senior officials at Carrington.

Fans were able to track his journey from Lisbon to Manchester on an app, with up to 6,400 people keeping an eye on his flight at one stage.

Littler revealed he was one of them, indicating how excited he is to see Amorim get to work at United.

But the teenage star still had a job to do on Tuesday night as he took on Lourence Ilagan after winning his opening two group games.

Prior to taking to the stage Littler said: ‘I can just play with absolute freedom tonight, I know I could get an even better leg difference. Try to get another good average in, and hopefully it will be three out of three.’

He lived up to his word as he delivered a sparkling display to record a 5-3 victory. Littler almost hit a nine-darter, but his dart at double 12 just missed the target.

His win still sealed top spot in Group F, though, as he progressed to the last-16 in Wolverhampton.
