Cauley Woodrow revealed that he felt his hand ‘crack’ following a collision with James Tarkowski, shortly before grabbing the winner for Luton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

The former Fulham striker came off the bench to score a 96th-minute winner for Rob Edwards’s side that clinched a place in the next round and the Hatter’s second win at Goodison park this season.

Vitaliy Mykolenko had earlier scored an own goal before Jack Harrison equalised in the second-half. Woodrow’s winner sparked wild celebrations, which would have helped ease the pain of a suspected broken hand.

The 29-year-old was involved in a collision with Tarkowski ten minutes before netting and admitted the incident left him in a ‘bit of shock’.

‘James Tarkowski fell on me accidentally and I felt it crack so I was in a bit of shock for a while,’ he said. ‘It was a tough game and was like a basketball match at the end. I don’t really remember much about my goal. It just fell to me and I managed to tap it in.’

Rob Edwards (right) said he hoped the win could give his side a ‘feel-good factor’ going to into next week’s Premier League fixture against Brighton

The strike was just Woodrow’s second of the campaign, having netted in the League Cup against Fulham in August.

Luton and Everton are separated by just a point in the Premier League. Toffees fans had booed their former player Ross Barkley and referee Simon Hooper throughout the afternoon but turned their ire toward their own team at the final whistle.

The Hatters can now look forward to the next round where they could meet non-league Maidstone, who remarkably triumphed over Championship high-flyers Ipswich

‘I didn’t enjoy many cup runs as a player.’ Edwards said. ‘We will enjoy this, it does mean a lot and it is important that we enjoy these moments.

‘Hopefully it can give us a feel-good factor going into next week. I’m excited to see who we get in the fifth round. We have been picking up results and we want that to continue. We are really pleased.’
