Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan will have to spend the next week sitting out of training after suffering a nasty blow to the head during the team’s 4-0 win over Udinese on Friday night, which rules him out of the important upcoming Serie A match against Atalanta on Sunday.

The France international was briefly knocked unconscious on the turf of the Bluenergy Stadium on Friday night after he attempted to come out of his area and head clear an Udinese ball in-behind, but smashed into teammate Alex Jimenez and needed to be stretchered off as a result.

Maignan was out cold for one worrying moment, and was rolled onto his side before being lifted onto a stretcher and carried off the pitch.

He was conscious and talking by the time he made it down the tunnel, but was taken straight to hospital for further checks, and was discharged the following day

That means he will not be able to play in the upcoming Serie A match against third-placed Atalanta on Sunday evening.

Maignan will also be taken in for another CT scan on Tuesday afternoon to rule out any further consequences of his head injury.
