Man City close in on FIRST major signing of January transfer window

Manchester City are on the verge of making their first signing of 2025 after submitting a formal bid to sign one of the brightest young talents in Europe this season.

City are looking to strengthen this month after their recent downturn in form, with Pep Guardiola aiming to rejuvenate his side with fresh young faces.

The Premier League champions are expected to pursue a multitude of players during the window and their first transfer appears to be reaching a conclusion after progress was made over the signing of Abdukhodir Khusanov.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a strong season at the heart of Lens’ defence, with only Paris Saint-Germain conceding fewer goals than the Ligue 1 side.

Khusanov has been tracked by a number of Premier League clubs after his impressive campaign so far, with Lens admitting the Uzbeki centre-back will be sold this month.

And City are on course to win the race for Khusanov’s signature, with Sky Sport reporter Patrick Berger claiming that an offer of €50 million, including bonuses, has been submitted, with the player keen on the move.

City likely to follow up Khusanov signing with double swoop

Khusanov joined Lens in 2023 for €100,000 and the youngster has established himself as a key player for Will Still’s side this season in a breakout campaign.

With just two years remaining on his contract and fierce attention from some of Europe’s biggest sides, Lens have been resigned to Khusanov’s exit and City are expected to wrap up the move in the coming days.

City’s next target is expected to be Omar Marmoush, although a deal could prove complicated with Eintracht Frankfurt demanding €80m for their prolific forward.

The English giants are also still pursuing a deal for another young defender in Vitor Reis and are in talks with Palmeiras over a €40m move, while a midfielder could also be on the cards for Guardiola’s side later in the window.
