Man City edge closer to SECOND January transfer

A big-money Manchester City signing is set to leave the club just one year after joining.

Omar Marmoush, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt for €75 million in January 2025, is looking for the exit, according to TeamTalk.

The Egyptian international has been away at AFCON for most of the last month, but he has not figured into Man City manager Pep Guardiola’s plans much this season.

Marmoush has appeared in 10 Premier League matches this season with two starts, both of which came in August. In all competitions, he has made 18 appearances and has one assist to his name this season.

His availability was limited by a knee injury that kept him out for a month in September and October. Yet he still has not worked his way back into the first XI.

Can Marmoush fit in at City?

Marmoush, who can both score and create, hit the ground running after arriving in England. He scored eight goals and provided an assist in 22 appearances, 18 of which were starts.

While it was not the same production as the 20 goals and 13 assists he had in 26 games in the first half of that season at Eintracht Frankfurt, it was a promising start, especially considering how players often struggle when moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.

Marmoush is mostly a striker or No. 10 but can also play on the wing, meaning that City’s recent signing of Antoine Semenyo will only further decrease Marmoush’s opportunities.

City’s second and third-top league goalscorers behind Erling Haaland are Phil Foden (7) and Tijjani Reijnders (5), who often play in Marmoush’s preferred No. 10 role behind Haaland.

That makes Marmoush’s chances of becoming a first-choice player for City even slimmer.

Spurs chase Marmoush’s signature

Tottenham Hotspur, who have lacked a star attacking talent since Heung-min Son left last season, are trying to make Marmoush their second high-profile signing this month after Conor Gallagher.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League, putting them on course for consecutive bottom-half finishes after coming in 17th last season.

It would be the first time that happened to the club since the early 2000s.

Spurs have already spent significant sums on attackers this season as Xavi Simons, Mohamed Kudus, and Mathys Tel were brought in over the summer.

Marmoush is older than all three and is therefore more proven. Plus, his ability to both score and assist could put Spurs closer to replacing the production they lost when Harry Kane moved to Bayern Munich in 2023.
