Man City fan dead following medical emergency during derby against Man United as Premier League champions pay heartfelt tribute

Manchester City have confirmed that a fan died during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by arch-rivals Manchester United at the Etihad. 

Sunday’s derby clash, which saw the visitors snatch all three points late in the game, was overshadowed by the tragic passing of a Man City fan following a ‘medical emergency’.  

A statement from the Premier League champions’ social media account read: ‘Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.

‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’

The tributes began to flood in in the aftermath on social media, with countless fans sending their condolences. 

Former Premier League rivals also commented on the announcement, writing: ‘We send our condolences to their family, friends and all at Manchester City at this time.’

Man City had led for 52 minutes after Josko Gvardiol’s opener in the first half before Bruno Fernandes levelled the tie from the spot on 88 minutes. 

Amad Diallo then completed the comeback with a 90th-minute winner to see the Red Devils take all three points back to Old Trafford. 

It comes at a time when Guardiola is under heavy scrutiny with his side on an unprecedented run of just one win in 11 games in all competitions. 

For United meanwhile it was a welcome return to winning ways in the Premier League, having not won since December 1, with back-to-back defeats by Arsenal and Nottingham Forest before a Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen.
