Man City fans have hit out at the coverage of the FA Cup fifth-round draw for how their team was announced during the program.

Pep Guardiola‘s side progressed to the next round of the tournament after beating Tottenham 1-0 on Friday night with Nathan Ake scoring in the 88th minute of the match to seal a late victory.

The draw took place on Sunday afternoon and City will take on Luton Town in the next round.

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson was making the draw and as he pulled City’s number out of the pot, the Treble winners were announced by host Seema Jaswal as ‘second in the Premier League and five-time semi-finalists in the last five years.’

City are the current holders of the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League. They defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the final of the FA Cup last year to claim victory.

City were referred to as as ‘five-time semi-finalists in the last five years’ with many fans taking to social media to question why they weren’t called the defending champions

Yet the clip has ruffled some feathers among City fans with some left wondering why they weren’t called the defending champions.

One wrote: ‘This was actually very strange. They always make a thing of identifying the holders. Oh well, Better win it again then…’

‘Pretty embarrassing to not even bring yourself to refer to Man City as the holders in the draw,’ another wrote.

Another added: ‘Twice winners in the last five years.’ One wrote: ‘Truly shocking… but hey, no anti-city agenda!’

Even fans from other clubs chimed in to the discussion, with one writing: ‘don’t like city but that’s really weird.’

‘I’m a Liverpool fan and I thought it was strange at the time. Why even mention the league? It’s the FA Cup and City are the holders… say so!’

Ilkay Gundogan was the star of the show for City during last year’s FA Cup final against Man United. The German put the hosts 1-0 after just a minute of play with a sensational strike, before doubling their lead again after half-time.

While City have not quite replicated their form of last season, they have overcome a recent blip in form to go on a seven-match winning streak that culminated in their 1-0 win against Spurs on Friday.

City have never scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have lost all five games they’ve played at the new ground.

Guardiola has previously found it hard to grasp why their form has been so substandard at the stadium, but lumped praise on his side for securing the win.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to blast the commentary with one calling it ’embarrassing’

City went on to beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final last year and clinch the trophy

On Friday, they defeated Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to book their place in the fifth-round of the tournament

‘Deserved it? I think so but football is about scoring, not conceding and the statistics were really good today. Unbelievable. The performance was top, top class. These players prove again the reason why they have done what they have done in the past.

‘We played with incredible personality. All the players were top otherwise we cannot do it.

‘Now in the second part of the season if we lose we lose competitions, in the FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, we know how strong all the teams are.

‘We cannot drop points. We had that mentality that we have to win to go through, so I am really pleased.’
