Manchester City are set to honour Kevin De Bruyne with a statue after the midfielder announced the end of his 10-year career at the club.

Boss Pep Guardiola admitted it was ‘a sad day’ and claimed the Belgian ‘transcends’ the sport after winning 14 major honours, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

De Bruyne, whose contract is up at the end of June, revealed his future given the offer of a renewal was not forthcoming.

The 33-year-old will follow Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero in being immortalised outside the Etihad Stadium. Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee also have a statue.
