Manchester City have set aside €60 million for a summer transfer of Tijjani Reijnders, according to a report.

The Cityzens had a massive January transfer window, but they could be set for an even bigger summer period. Pep Guardiola knows that his team needs to get significantly younger.

Man City’s average age compared to the rest of the ‘Big Six’

Team Average age
Man City 26.7
Liverpool 26.6
Arsenal 25.7
Man Utd 25.3
Tottenham 24.7
Chelsea 23.5

Man City are planning numerous moves in a bid to freshen up their side and several important players of years past could be shown the door. Jack Grealish, Ederson and Kevin de Bruyne are just some of the big-name stars likely to depart.

De Bruyne, in particular, will be a massive loss considering how important he used to be to Guardiola. However, his age and repeated injury issues have seen his game time diminish drastically.

As a result, Man City have not even opened formal talks to extend his contract at this point, which is the clearest suggestion that he will move on this summer after a decade at the club.

Man City want Reijnders

City have been linked with several potential replacements for the Belgian. Florian Wirtz is viewed as a dream option, but he looks likely to extend his Bayer Leverkusen contract and stay with the Bundesliga side until the 2026 World Cup.

AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has also been frequently linked. He recently received a bumper new contract for his outstanding performances, but TEAMtalk claims that this won’t deter the Cityzens.

The outlet claims that Guardiola has earmarked Reijnders and fellow Serie A midfielder Ederson of Atalanta as his priority targets for the summer. Indeed, it is asserted that City have set aside a budget of €60 million to bring in the Dutchman.

Initially, the Manchester giants were only prepared to go as high as €50m for Reijnders, but his importance to Milan and his new deal have made the reigning Premier League accept that he will be more expensive.

Milan don’t want to lose the 26-year-old, but they are increasingly at risk of missing out on the Champions League, which will cast doubt on the futures of all of their key players, including Reijnders.
