Former Oasis frontman and Manchester City super-fan Liam Gallagher has delivered a typically brutal response to Jurgen Klopp‘s decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Klopp made the shock announcement on Friday morning after admitting he was ‘running out of energy’ following nine years at Anfield.

Liverpool have been City’s main domestic rivals in recent years, with the two teams having multiple titanic tussles for the Premier League title. Gallagher has made it clear he doesn’t have much time for the Reds, and offered them little sympathy when asked for his opinion on Klopp’s imminent departure.

‘Good riddance,’ Gallagher replied to Radio X host Johnny Vaughan during an interview on the show on Friday.

‘I’ve got nothing, yeah, good riddance. See you later!’

Liverpool and City could be set for another title battle this season, with the former currently five points clear of Pep Guardiola‘s side, albeit having played a game more.

But it will be the last one before Klopp moves on after he confirmed his decision to quit Liverpool in an emotional interview with the club’s official website.

‘I will leave the club at the end of the season,’ he said. ‘I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

‘It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously.

‘I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.’

Klopp later revealed in a special press conference on Friday afternoon that he knew he had to step down as early as last summer after a busy transfer window that saw a major squad overhaul at Liverpool.

‘The summer was a difficult one. We were working really hard to bring in the right players. The summer and preparation we had was outstanding. That gave me a lot of joy. But it’s not about that,’ he explained.

‘I love the team and how we react, but it’s the stuff we have to do next to it. The planning – the transfer window isn’t just the window – you need to be spot on as well. Then I realised that’s something I cannot [continue]… I did it so often. Six press conferences a week for nine years!’

Tributes poured in for Klopp from the football community, with Jamie Carragher urging the German coach to ‘go out with a bang’ in his final season, while Gary Lineker hailed the ‘incredible job’ that Klopp has done since arriving on Merseyside in 2015.

Liverpool fans were also left ‘heartbroken’ by the news which came out of the blue, much like Bill Shankly’s resignation 50 years ago.

But Gallagher isn’t sad to see the back of Klopp, as highlighted by his parting shot at the 56-year-old just hours after he announced he would be walking away.
