Man City welcome Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to the Etihad Stadium in their Champions League tie as Pep Guardiola seeks to go one step closer to securing a top eight spot in the group stage

Manchester City currently sit 4th in the Champions League league phase table, having collected ten points from four matches. The Sky Blues have claimed victories over Napoli, Villarreal, and Borussia Dortmund, while their only slip came in a 2-2 draw with AS Monaco.

Pep Guardiola’s men head into this fixture in impressive form, winning four of their last five games across all competitions. Their home record is equally strong, with four consecutive wins at the Etihad. City’s matches have been entertaining affairs, with over 2.5 goals scored in each of their last five outings and both teams scoring in four of those games. Notably, City have netted three or more goals in four of their last five matches, and will be confident of continuing that trend against a Bayer Leverkusen side that have not quite reached the heights of previous seasons.

Leverkusen remain a formidable opponent, currently 3rd in the Bundesliga with 23 points from 11 games. Their recent form is solid, with four wins from their last five in all competitions, and over 2.5 goals scored in four of those matches. However, their Champions League campaign has been less convincing, with just five points from four games. While they did manage a 1-0 win at Benfica, that result has been overshadowed by draws against Copenhagen (2-2) and PSV (1-1), as well as a heavy 7-2 defeat to PSG.

Despite their strong domestic performances, Leverkusen have yet to show the consistency in Europe needed to trouble a team of City’s calibre. Given City’s firepower and home advantage, it’s difficult to see anything other than a comfortable victory for the hosts.
