Ruben Amorim has claimed that his future is still undecided despite reports that he is set to be announced as Manchester United manager.

United have moved quickly to appoint their preferred replacement for Erik ten Hag, who was sacked as boss after nearly two-and-a-half years in charge on Monday.

Sporting confirmed that Amorim had been approached by United with the Red Devils happy to pay his £8.3million release clause, with the club in action just hours later against Nacional in Taca da Liga.

And Amorim, after the game, was the centre of attention as he fended off a number of questions about his future, speaking on the matter for the first time.

But fans were left in the dark from his words, as he seemed to suggest there is still a long way to go before he steps foot in the Old Trafford dugout.

‘Nobody knows if it’s a farewell game,’ he said post-match. ‘If there will be a farewell, it’s something that hasn’t been decided yet, so we’re going to analyse the game.

‘I have nothing to say now, we are here to analyse. Anything I say will only create more noise.

‘There is nothing to say about the matter. There is the statement, everyone knows. It was said by the club. Apart from that, we don’t know the details for sure. We will see.

‘It will be up to me to decide, as the statement said. But saying half-measures now doesn’t seem to me to be the best thing to do.’
