Bruno Fernandes addressed his Manchester United future after leading his side to a 3-2 win against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils captain returned from injury to star at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag‘s men picked up a vital win to keep their hopes of securing European football for next season alive.

But Fernandes’ future at United is far from certain, as the Portuguese playmaker has been linked with European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, as well as a potential move to Saudi Arabia to join former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

When asked if he could leave United at the end of the season, Fernandes was adamant that he wants to stay, but refused to rule out moving on if the club decides to go in another direction.

‘I will be here,’ Fernandes told Sky Sports as he looked ahead to next season.

‘The club needs to want me and the club wants me to be a part of the future so as I said always – I don’t want to be a player the club doesn’t want to have.

‘If for some reason they don’t want me I will go.’

Wednesday’s match could prove to be Fernandes’ Old Trafford farewell, with United finishing off a difficult season at home with a victory.

But the 29-year-old insisted that he is fully focused on the final two games of the season, with United facing a trip to Brighton on Sunday before facing arch-rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final the following weekend.

United will need to better Newcastle’s result this weekend to seal a top-seven finish, while they will be bidding for revenge after losing last year’s cup final to City at Wembley, and Fernandes has urged his team-mates to finish off their disappointing campaign on a high.

‘Obviously the job isn’t finished yet. We still have one game in the Premier League and then we have the biggest game of the season in the FA Cup,’ he added.

‘It’s been a tough season. Everyone knows that the table shows we don’t have to hide from that. We know it. The fans have been amazing all season and have been behind us and supporting us.

‘We really appreciate what they’ve been doing for us. Even in this tough area – they’re not used to that. We want to do better and they deserve that.

‘We had to do something [for the fans]. We’ve been trying – although the results don’t show that. But we’ve been trying our best.

‘We’ve been working hard and everyone is giving our best. But we are aware that we have to do more as I said it’s not about today we still have two games to go and have to finish in the best way.’
