Man United legend Ryan Giggs claims ‘I don’t see a way back’ for FOUR club stars and admits one player ‘leaves a sour taste’ after impressing on loan

Manchester United could be facing yet another overhaul this summer in the dressing-room, and club legend Ryan Giggs has claimed that there are four player for whom he does not see a way back into the fold under Ruben Amorim. 

With United currently down in 16th in the Premier League and showing little sign of improvement, there’s an argument that more than four players might be playing their final games for the club. 

Despite their woes, the Red Devils have made it to the Europa League final and have a chance to qualify for the Champions League when they take on 17th-placed Tottenham in Bilbao. 

Exactly how many cracks that victory would paper over for either club, though, remains to be seen. 

As such, it’s a massive summer coming up for United and Amorim, who already made big calls in the January window when giving the green light for a number of loan moves away from the club. 

While the head coach will have his first pre-season camp to really get to grips with his squad, Giggs has admitted he thinks loanees Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia will struggle to work their way into Amorim’s plans.

‘I think that’s down to Amorim,’ former Wales boss Giggs told the Webby and O’Neil show, when asked whether the club should look to sell the quartet.

‘I think he’s already made up his own mind and it might have even been taking out of his own hands by the powers that be to bring money in to get his kind of player in.

‘Marcus leaves a little bit of a sour taste, he is one of our own, he’s come through, he’s done so well when he was first in the team.

‘But he didn’t look happy, he looks under pressure and not enjoying his football.

‘So for Marcus’ sake, and you can see him enjoying his football now, I don’t see a way back for any of them.’

While Sancho has been on loan at Chelsea, where he has been as unimpressive as his Man United career to date has seemed, the fortunes of Antony and Rashford have been far brighter. 

Rashford appears to be on the road to rediscovering his best form under Unai Emery at Aston Villa, though surprisingly Antony has been far and away the star performer. 

The £86million flop has been a breath of fresh air at Real Betis, and has been crucial to their form in both reaching the Conference League final – scoring two and assisting another across both semi-final legs – and threatening the Champions League places in LaLiga.

In 22 games he has eight goals and five assists (he has 12 goals and five assists in 96 United games for reference), and if he should leave this summer has done United no disservice in driving up his asking price.   

But for Rashford, the England international’s struggles are likely to be far more keenly felt at Old Trafford given his coming through the ranks there, as Giggs mentions, and the fact that he had shown such promise early in his career. 

After emerging as a teenager he had threatened to become a legend to join the pantheon of the club’s other legendary heroes, but it just didn’t seem to work out for him. 

‘For some reason, it just hasn’t happened the last few years at United,’ Giggs, one of those icons, adds.

‘When I was playing my best football it was because I was free, I was expressing myself, enjoying myself.

‘It didn’t look like that when Marcus was here. He needs to find a place where he is loved and can reach the levels he is capable of.’
