Manchester United have ‘made a transfer U-turn’ over Casemiro, who now looks set to stay put this summer.

The Brazilian, who still has two years to run on his four-year deal, followed up an impressive first campaign with a hugely disappointing second one last term.

He was on the chopping block, along with a number of team-mates, with United said to be welcoming offers for the 32-year-old, who’s conditioning had been called into question at times.

According to the Sun, Casemiro’s pre-season and early season form has done enough to persuade Erik ten Hag and Co to keep hold of him – though it must also be said that no huge offers have been forthcoming from the middle east.

The former Real Madrid man appears to be leaner and hungrier, playing the full 90 minutes against Man City in the FA Community Shield, backing that up with another full game in the win over Fulham

While Scott McTominay appears to be heading towards the exit door, Casemiro’s importance to the squad in the engine room is underlined.

McTominay is of interest to Napoli, who want a loan, while United are seeking a £35m permanent deal for him, which would be pure profit.

The 27-year-old is a product of United’s academy and has made over 250 appearances for the club since making his debut in April 2017.

Fulham had showed concrete interest in signing the Scottish international over the past few days, and it’s thought they were near to completing a deal to bring the midfielder to Craven Cottage on a full-time basis.

But they have now moved to secure Sander Berge for £25million from Burnley.

United remain interested in bolstering their defensive midfield resources – with PSG’s Manuel Ugarte a primary target.

The French side have offered the Uruguayan on loan with the obligation to buy for £51million but United do not want to pay more than £42m.
