Manchester United star Amad Diallo has apologised to fans in a heartbroken social media post after a ‘very difficult year’ for the club.
Many supporters would argue that Diallo, 22, has been one of the few bright sparks in a torrid season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. Indeed, he received an outpouring of supportive comments beneath his post.
He has been a regular starter under Ruben Amorim and already carved a place for himself in the club’s folklore after scoring a sublime 90th-minute winner against Manchester City earlier this month.
However, the youngster has taken it upon himself to apologise for a year which has seen United tumble to 14th in the Premier League – after finishing a record-low eighth last season.
He accompanied the post with a black and white picture of him holding his head in his hands.
‘A very difficult year, apologising is not enough,’ he began on X.

The 22-year-old has been a bright spot in a stormy season and thanked fans for their support
‘But you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time… thank you.’
United signed Diallo as an 18-year-old for £37million from Atalanta in 2021 and it took a while for him to truly make his mark with the Red Devils.
After making his debut in February 2021, he was loaned out to Rangers and Sunderland and only really had a crack of the whip last season, when he started to emerge as an impact player.
Scoring a 121st-minute winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals in March helped endear him to fans and this season he has gone from strength to strength.
He has benefited perhaps more than any other star since the arrival of Amorim.
United’s change to a 3-4-3 formation has seen the Ivory Coast international transformed into a right-wing-back and he has starred in the new position while receiving praise from his boss, team-mates and pundits alike.
‘Let’s say maybe it’s confidence because now I’m playing a lot of games,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘Like I am now, I’ve been every time like this but maybe the game time and confidence.
He is one of the stars who has benefited most from the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim
‘But now I’m happy to play more games and I just want to fight for the club, for the team, every time the manager gives me the confidence and gives me the chance to play for this club, I just want to show I can play for this club.
‘My dream is to achieve a lot of things with this club, that’s why I’m here. I want to fight for this badge and let’s see what the future brings.’
