Man United to open talks over signing Bryan Mbeumo as Brentford star picks Old Trafford over Premier League rivals in huge boost to Ruben Amorim after £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha

  • Bryan Mbeumo scored 20 league goals and added eight assists in 2024-25
  • The Brentford forward has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs

Manchester United are to open official talks with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo after the forward indicated his wish to move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle United, Tottenham and Arsenal have all made contact over the 25-year old but he has told United he wants to join them and be part of Ruben Amorim‘s rebuild this summer.

The clubs must now agree on a fee with Brentford understood to be valuing Mbeumo around £70million.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank said last week: ‘If he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot.

‘Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done.

‘There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.

‘I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer.

‘How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic.

‘And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player.’

United are ready to sell to help fund their reshaping of Amorim’s lacklustre squad which officially started this week with the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Captain Bruno Fernandes is mulling over an £80million move to Al Hilal while Inter Milan are stepping up their interest in striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony, Andre Onana are also likely to leave while talks are ongoing over the next moves for Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Hojlund could be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee.

Mail Sport reported previously how Napoli, Juventus and Inter have been watching his progress aware that the 22-year old had greater success in Italy.

Inter have made contact with his entourage and want to ascertain a price from United over the coming days.

Meanwhile, two more significant departures from United staff have been confirmed.

Director of media relations and public affairs Andrew Ward and media director Ian Nolan are to leave the club.
