Man Utd AGREE transfer fee for second summer signing

Manchester United are closing in on their second major summer signing, with terms agreed with Brentford over a move for Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils have been in negotiations over a deal for the Cameroon international for several weeks, leading to Tottenham Hotspur coming close to completing a hijack of the deal.

Man Utd have had two bids knocked back for Mbeumo but have struck third time lucky, according to The Guardian.

It is claimed that an upfront fee for the 25-year-old has been agreed between the clubs, with talks now ongoing over bonus payments that could ultimately see Brentford’s €76 million (£65m) valuation of the attacker matched.

For the moment, it’s unclear how much United will pay for Mbeumo upfront, yet the Old Trafford side had previously had an offer of €65m rejected by the London side.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that a new bid was lodged by Man Utd on Tuesday worth €70m.

Brentford have been holding out for their asking price because it approximately matches the fee that Man Utd paid to sign to trigger Matheus Cunha’s release clause from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils stumped up a little over €73m (£62.5m) to add the Brazil international to their ranks as Ruben Amorim’s first major summer arrival.

Man Utd are paying a premium for Mbeumo. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €58.1m, which suggests they are paying significantly above his worth.

Similarly, Mbeumo’s wages are set to be pegged around the same price as those of Cunha, who is one year older than the former Troyes star. As such, he is set to earn a salary of at least €175,000 per week.

This will put the new signing in the same wage bracket as the likes of Luke Shaw and Christian Eriksen, who will depart the club as a free agent at the end of his contract.
