Manchester United are already contemplating an approach for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to Teamtalk.
The Red Devils were keen on landing a new midfielder this summer, but did not find a suitable target before the transfer deadline.
They are likely to revisit the transfer market in January and it is claimed that Wharton could be the subject of serious interest.
The Blackburn Rovers graduate has developed into a quality defensive midfielder. He has excelled with his line-breaking passes.
The Red Devils did not make an offer for him over the summer, but could weigh up a move for January based on the progress made.
Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte are the club’s defensive midfielders at the moment and their performances will be assessed.
If they can’t find consistency in the coming months, United could re-enter the transfer market for a solution in January rather than next summer.
Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand has also been linked with a move.
