BVB’s Norwegian right-back Julian Ryerson assisted all four goals, and Man Utd are now willing to spend €20m to bring the 28-year-old to Old Trafford this summer, according to Bild.

Ryerson is second in the Bundesliga with 11 assists in 20 appearances, which puts him behind only Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise in the assists table.

The Norway international has blown past his previous single-season high in assists, which was three last season.

Man Utd are set to face competition from Newcastle. The Magpies’ currently injured first-choice right-back Tino Livramento could be set for an exit, while Kieran Trippier’s contract expires after the season ends.

Man Utd target now one of Europe’s top attacking fullbacks

This season, Ryerson has established himself as one of Europe’s top attacking fullbacks.

His recent four-assist performance was the high point of an already impressive season. He had never had more than three assists in a season in all competitions, dating back to his days at Union Berlin, and before that, Norway’s Viking.

That feat against Mainz was his first multi-assist game this season.

Three of those assists were from set pieces, two of which were corner kicks. With dead-ball situations taking on even more importance in the Premier League, where space to score in open play comes at a premium, it is telling that Man Utd want to add a specialist.

At 28, Ryerson is two years older than Man Utd’s first-choice right-back, Diogo Dalot, but Dalot has never made even half the assists in a single season that Ryerson has already.

The €20m price quoted could be seen as a bargain in today’s market, especially if Ryerson makes an instant impact in the event Man Utd get the deal done.
