Manchester United and Chelsea could compete for the services of RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba at the end of the season.
The Red Devils recently suffered a huge setback with Lisandro Martinez picking up a serious knee injury. He may not return until late 2025.
The club are likely to pursue a left-footed replacement, and Mirror claim that Lukeba is one of the top names on their radar for the summer.
However, they won’t be alone in the pursuit and are expected to face competition from the likes of Chelsea as well as Real Madrid.
Lukeba has a release clause worth £74 million in his deal, and Leipzig may not provide a discount on the price in the next transfer window.
The Bundesliga giants ideally want to keep Lukeba for another 12 months but the Frenchman appears prepared to pursue a bigger challenge.
Liverpool are also admirers of the Frenchman but they may only enter the race if they can’t convince Virgil van Dijk to prolong his stay.
Van Dijk’s contract expires at the end of June this year. Talks are ongoing behind the scenes over a new contract with a pay rise.
