Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has liked a tweet of club legend Patrice Evra ripping into Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford following Wednesday’s Premier League victory over Chelsea.

Man Utd claimed a 2-1 victory over the Blues thanks to a brace of goals from Scott McTominay, who is now the club’s leading scorer this season, but the pre-match talking point was over the exclusion of Rashford and Martial.

Neither had fared well as Erik ten Hag’s side went down limply against Newcastle at the weekend, with the England international in particular criticised for his failure to work hard for the team.

Amid reports of a split in the Man Utd dressing room, it would appear that Shaw is one who favours the stance of Ten Hag in dropping the duo.

The England star has liked a tweet citing a quote from Evra that slams the duo.

“I think it will be tough for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to come back into the starting eleven,” the post from centredevils states.

Shaw liked the comment, which is sure to generate further controversy around what is already a frenzied atmosphere around Old Trafford following a disappointing start to the season, but it was quickly unliked when it went viral.

Beginning of the end for Rashford?

This is not the first time that a Manchester United star has caused controversy over social media this summer, with Jadon Sancho still out of the team after accusing Ten Hag of scapegoating him earlier this season.

Shaw, in siding with the under-fire manager, is unlikely to receive such treatment on this occasion.

His actions, though, cast more doubt over the future of Rashford, in particular.

The 26-year-old came into this season as one of the club’s leading hopes after scoring 30 goals in a brilliant second half last term, yet he has been in poor touch this time around, with just two scored in all competitions.

Martial, meanwhile, is out of contract at the end of the season and is destined to be released as a free agent.
