Manchester United ‘dream’ of re-signing Napoli superstar Scott McTominay, according to a report.
The Scotland international has become a hero for club and country since leaving the Red Devils in 2024. McTominay has blossomed into one of Europe’s standout midfielders at Napoli and won the Scudetto in his first season in Italy.
Due to his inspired performances in Naples, McTominay was named Serie A’s Player of the Year for 2024/25 and finished 18th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or ranking. He has also proved decisive for Scotland by scoring a sensational overhead kick in the win over Denmark that sent his country to the World Cup.
Unsurprisingly, then, many at Man Utd have looked back with regret on the decision to sell the homegrown, even though there is a belief that the club’s hand was forced due to financial regulations.
McTominay’s spectacular form has given rise to some rumours that he could return to the Premier League in the not-too-distant future. Should Napoli retain their Serie A championship, he may feel compelled to have another crack at English football.
Man Utd want to bring McTominay home
The midfielder was recently linked with a sensational move to Everton, who are reportedly prepared to shatter their club record to sign him for a fee in the region of €70 million in 2026.
Now, CaughtOffside claims that Man Utd “dream” of re-signing McTominay. In fact, it is asserted that an “extraordinary offer” could convince Napoli to sell as early as January.
The report speaks of the same €70m ballpark and insists that Napoli may be forced to cash in on the 29-year-old at the right price next year. Man Utd, the outlet confirms, “regret” letting McTominay leave.
Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle have also been keeping tabs on McTominay’s recent exploits. While the chances of a January move appear slim, it is said that a summer transfer is “70 per cent” likely.
